Tell Me - an Alex Day and Carrie Hope Fletcher Story - Part 1
“What do you wanna do now?” asked Alex, I shrugged, “what do best friends do?”
“Watch Anastasia” I replied and then no longer being able to hold in a giggle I added “with salted popcorn”
“Do you want to do that now?” he said keeping up his straight face, his eyes meeting mine for a moment “cause that’d be nice”
“We can do that now” I said “and tea”
“Aw yeah” he replied “did you forget to turn the camera off?”
We’d just finished making a video that had determined that we were now officially best friends. As much as I knew it wasn’t deadly serious I was still just a little bit thrilled. I ducked forward and flicked off the camera, it made a bleeping noise as it shut down. I got up and Alex followed behind me as we walked downstairs and I insisted he sat down whilst I sorted out popcorn and tea. Just as I had finished pouring milk into the tea the microwave went off and I pulled the hot bag of popcorn out with the tips of my fingers and put it down on the side.
I picked up the mugs of tea and started to walk to the lounge when Alex walked into the room making me jump and a little bit of tea sloshed onto the floor. “Look what you did now!” I said accusingly but I was smiling at the same time.
He put his hands up “Sorry, just wanted to see if you needed a hand. Let me get that!” he whisked the mugs out of my hands and put them on the counter and then looked around for something to wipe up the mess with. “Its fine Alex I’ve got it” I said rolling my eyes and placing a hand on his shoulder. I picked up a sponge from the sink and mopped it up quickly; it was only a little bit anyway. He took the bag of popcorn and poured it in to a big bowl from the cupboard. We walked back into the lounge with our snacks and I flopped down onto the sofa.
“I’m sorry I shocked you” said Alex.
“You idiot it’s fine” I said smiling at him before batting him on the arm gently
“But you can go and turn the telly on to make up for it” I added.
“But I’m comfy!” he complained but he had his usual teasing gleam in his eyes.
“Go!” I raised my voice and laughed at his expression.
“Okay” he said in a small voice as he got up and turned the TV on.
He sat back down moments later and I put my arm through his and leant into his side comfortably.
I’d seen Anastasia quite a few times already, it wasn’t technically a Disney film but I counted it as one anyway because Anastasia was a perfect princess. I watched Alex out of the corner of my eye as he stared at the screen. I really liked Alex Day. I didn’t know if it was his smile, how comfortable yet still exciting it was to be around him or just the way he talked and the things he said; it was probably a combination of all of those reasons. He looked down briefly and caught me looking at him, the corners of his mouth turned up into a small smile. “Alright darlin’?” he asked, and I knew for sure in that moment that he had well and truly stolen my heart.
